F-One Frigate V2 2027: parawing test and review
F-One kept us waiting for the Frigate V2. In the meantime, competitors released some seriously high-performance parawings. Gavin Cooper from the Hydro Gav channel put it to the test, from light wind to overpowered conditions. His conclusion? It's not the same kite as the V1, and that's not what we expected.
Huge thanks to Gavin Cooper of the Hydro Gav channel for his detailed review, published on September 16, 2026.
The F-One Frigate V2 2027 is a single-skin parawing, available in nine sizes from 2 to 6.5 m² and two colors, Lava and Lilac, ranging from 949 to 1.299 incl. VAT.
The Leading Edge is stiffened, with more ribs than the original Frigate. F-One redesigned the bridle to include a storage aid system. The vertical bar, borrowed from the Quest, is back, and a harness line is included. F-One also announced a lighter hybrid construction on the rear of the 5.5 and 6.5 m² models. Prices were noted in our catalog on September 16, 2026.
What's new compared to the first Frigate
The V1 was a complete, easy kite with genuine low-end power, suiting almost everyone. The V2 takes a different path, and F-One isn't hiding it: more aspect ratio, more ribs, increased maximum depower, and a kite that flies much further forward in the window. The result is speed, efficiency, and significantly better upwind performance.
Gavin Cooper sums up the shift perfectly: the V1 was an excellent all-rounder, but the V2 is a performance kite. This isn't an evolution; it's a complete repositioning. You need to know this before buying, as it changes who should be riding it.
The bar and practical details
This is the first point the tester highlights, and he's emphatic: F-One nailed the bar. It's not new, we've seen it on the Quest, but it's light, clean, well-balanced in hand, and the right length. The extensions beyond the flying lines are slightly raised. This keeps the lines away from the bar during deployment and limits tangles.
The harness line comes standard. It stores flat when not in use, is easy to find when you need it, and stabilizes quickly after a powerful session. The color coding is well-designed, the lines are easily identifiable, and most importantly, the wingtips are marked. When you're managing a stall on the A-line and need to recover the wingtips, this detail saves time with every maneuver.
In flight: stability, tracking, and speed
Under power, the Frigate V2 offers remarkable stability. In strong and gusty winds, it stays put and continues to pull without becoming twitchy. Its handling in the upper wind range is on par with the best performance parawings currently available, according to the tester.
Once hooked into the harness, it drives upwind incredibly well. It's fast, efficient, and positions itself far forward in the window. This means you don't need perfect technique to gain ground; it pulls you forward on its own. This is exactly what you want from a performance-oriented kite.
Despite its aspect ratio, it remains maneuverable. Upwind turns are easy precisely because the kite is so far forward: you pass underneath, complete the rotation, and power returns quickly. Down loops and hand passes remain accessible. It's lively, glides through the air, and offers crisp acceleration. The tester recommends pairing it with a fast foil, like the Eagle from the F-One range.
Storage: a genuinely pleasant surprise
This is the most surprising point in this review. For a kite of this performance level, the Frigate V2 is among the easiest the tester has used to stall and pack away. The stall is predictable, the kite folds neatly, and everything remains manageable on the foil. The storage lines are marked with contrasting white, so there's no hesitation when grabbing the correct one.
Many performance parawings become cumbersome to manage while riding. This one does not. This is a concrete advantage, not just a catalog claim.
The compromises, and they do exist
The most significant concerns the low end. If you simply park the kite and wait for it to get you on the foil, the Frigate V2 isn't strong. It wants to position itself very far forward, so it doesn't generate the deep pull that other models produce. The absence of a yoke contributes to this: you have less latitude to push the kite deep into the window and keep it there.
The tester's nuance, and it's important: with good pumping and actively working the kite, he takes off in the same conditions as with equivalent-sized competitor kites. The absolute low end isn't bad; it simply demands more from the rider.
Two other reservations. The bag is well-made and serves as a hydration system, but it's bulky. Once the parawing is wet inside, you feel it moving on your back while pumping. A compression system is missing. Finally, the A-line stall system, despite spliced lines, still has knots along its path, which hinders the smoothness of the maneuver.
Against the competition
The tester only compares the Frigate V2 to current performance parawings, which is already a ranking in itself.
| Criterion | Frigate V2 position |
|---|---|
| Upwind ability, speed, high end | Just behind the PPC Orbit and Ozone Afterburner, on par with the Naish Hatch V2 |
| Low end | Behind the PPC Orbit, similar behavior to the Flow Dwing V2 |
| Easy to pack and stow. | It's on par with the Pocket Rocket V2, and even surpasses the Naish Hatch V2. |
For the low end, the tester found the PPC Orbit performs better, despite being a double-skin kite. He believes F-One made a deliberate choice here, as their Quest model already excels at delivering easy power in light wind. His F-One quiver recommendation is clear: grab the Quest for light wind, and the Frigate V2 when the wind picks up.

Who's it for?
This kite is for an intermediate or advanced rider who wants to link fast, efficient tacks, go upwind, and ride in steady wind. The tester is clear: he would no longer recommend the Frigate to a beginner, unlike with the V1. For someone learning, or for light wind, the F-One Quest remains the best choice in the range.
Here's a sizing tip based on all of the above: if you rely on the low end rather than your pumping, go one size up from what you would choose with a more powerful wing at low RPMs.

Here's what to remember, criterion by criterion: upwind and speed are among the best in its category. Its handling in the upper wind range is stable and consistent, even in gusty conditions. The kite's collapse and packing are predictable, despite some persistent knots on the lines. The low end requires active pumping due to a lack of parked power and a yoke. We have not yet ridden this kite. This report is based on Gavin Cooper's review from September 16, 2026, and on the specifications announced by F-One.
For the right rider and the right conditions, it was worth the wait.

Things to consider before buying.
If you primarily ride in light wind, if you're new to parawing, or if you want a kite that gets you on the foil effortlessly, the Frigate V2 is not the right choice. The Quest does that job better and costs less. If you're looking for pure performance and nothing else, the PPC Orbit and Ozone Afterburner are ahead, according to the tester. The Frigate V2 sits between the two, with an advantage that others at this level don't have: it packs up easily.
The full range is here: parawings and pocket wings, and all wingfoil gear.
Frequently asked questions about the F-One Frigate V2 2027.
What's new between the Frigate V1 and the Frigate V2?
The V1 was a versatile and easy parawing. The V2 aims for performance: more aspect ratio, more ribs, a stiffened Leading Edge, increased maximum depower, and a redesigned bridle with a packing aid. It is faster, more efficient, and goes upwind better, but it demands more from the rider in the low wind range.
Is the F-One Frigate V2 suitable for a parawing beginner?
No, it's not. This marks a change from the V1. Gavin Cooper no longer recommends this wing for beginners. If you're just starting out, the F-One Quest 2026 is a much better option for learning.
Which Frigate V2 size should you choose?
The 4 and 4.5 m² cover medium wind for most riders. If you rely on the wing's power rather than your pumping, take a size up. The choice depends on your weight, your foil, and your spot. Call us or come to the shop.
Is the Frigate V2 easy to pack while riding?
Yes, this is one of its key highlights. For a wing with this level of performance, our tester ranks it among the easiest to depower and fold, right up there with the Pocket Rocket V2. The packing lines are clearly marked with contrasting white for easy visibility.
Which foil should you pair with the F-One Frigate V2?
You'll want a fast foil, as this wing prioritizes speed and efficiency. Within the F-One range, our tester specifically recommends the Eagle.
