Billabong was founded in 1973 in Burleigh Heads, on Australia's Gold Coast, by Gordon and Rena Merchant. Boardriders acquired the brand in 2018. Then, in September 2023, Boardriders itself came under the control of Authentic Brands Group (sources: boardriders.com and Wikipedia, consulted on 24/08/2026). We carry their neoprene products: a women's wetsuit made with Yulex® petrochemical-free neoprene, a 5/4 winter suit, a summer top, and matching gloves and boots.

The Furnace Natural 4/3 mm Zipless for women, priced at €460, is a standout piece in our collection. It features a Yulex® core, a natural rubber that completely replaces petrochemical neoprene, along with a graphene-infused Graphene Recycler lining and a zipless entry. This wetsuit is perfect for mild winter and mid-season conditions. It is not a 5/4.
The Synergy 5/4, at €259.95, is your go-to cold water wetsuit. It features Superflex neoprene and Furnace lining for warmth. The chest zip makes for easy entry. It minimizes water flushing. At this price for a 5/4, it's one of the best values in the shop.
The 2.2 Revo Interchange, at €110, is the perfect summer top. It features Superflex Recycler jersey made from 100% recycled fibers and Superlight Foam sourced from recycled tires. You get good stretch and light thermal retention. This is what you'll want to wear from May to September.

The Revolution 3 mm Split Toe Boots, at €75.95, offer a balance between insulation and flexibility. The split toe grips the board better. This makes it the preferred format for surfing.
The Furnace 3 mm Gloves, at €59.95, are thin gloves with graphene-infused lining. You'll maintain feel in your hands. This is the real challenge with surf gloves.
The Furnace 5 mm, at €49.95, is the three-finger model for deep winter. Three fingers instead of five are significantly warmer. They retain more dexterity than a full mitten.
The Crayon Wave Lycra, at €35.99, offers UPF 50+ protection and stretch material. It's perfect for summer, bodyboarding, paddleboarding, and preventing chafing on your torso from the board.

Go for the Furnace Natural 4/3 Zipless. This is the women's benchmark in our Billabong selection, made with Yulex® petrochemical-free neoprene.
I want to surf all winter.
You'll need the Synergy 5/4, along with Revolution 3 mm boots and Furnace 5 mm gloves. The wetsuit alone is never enough in January.
I mostly surf in summer.
Grab the 2.2 Revo Interchange at €110, or simply the Crayon Wave lycra when the water is warm.
I want to limit petrochemicals.
Choose the Furnace Natural, made with Yulex®, and the 2.2 Revo, which features a jersey made from 100% recycled fibers and foam from recycled tires.
My hands are always cold.
The Furnace 5 mm three-finger gloves are your best bet. They're warmer than a five-finger glove and more precise than a full mitten. It's the right compromise when the water temperature drops.
I want to maintain feel.
The Furnace 3 mm gloves are perfect. With graphene lining and a contained thickness, you'll still feel the board and rail under your fingers.

What is Yulex®?
Yulex® is a natural rubber sourced from rubber trees. It completely replaces petrochemical neoprene. The Furnace Natural is made from it. This is the same principle as Prolimit's NaturePrene and other brands' natural ranges: it's a material substitution, not a combination without environmental impact.
What does zipless mean?
Zipless means no zipper. You enter the wetsuit through a flexible opening at the torso. This design lets less water in. It gives you more freedom in the back. It's a more acrobatic process to put on. You'll either love it or hate it, so try it on first.
What is Graphene Recycler?
Graphene Recycler is a graphene-infused lining. It better distributes and reflects body heat. You'll find it on the Furnace Natural and on the Furnace 3 mm gloves. This is a manufacturer claim, and it's consistent with what other neoprene brands are doing.
Is a 4/3 enough on the Atlantic coast?
From April to November, a 4/3 is more than enough on the Atlantic coast. In the middle of winter, however, you'll need a 5/4 with boots and gloves. The Furnace Natural 4/3 is perfect for mid-season, while the Synergy 5/4 will keep you warm through winter.
Three-finger or five-finger gloves?
Three-finger gloves offer more warmth, while five-finger gloves provide better precision. For surfing, where you're not holding anything, three-finger gloves work very well. But for kiteboarding or wing foiling, where you grip a bar or a handle, five-finger gloves remain more comfortable.
Does Billabong still belong to its founders?
No, Billabong no longer belongs to its founders. Gordon and Rena Merchant founded the brand in 1973. Boardriders acquired it in 2018, and then Authentic Brands Group took control of Boardriders in September 2023. It's now a portfolio brand, but that doesn't diminish the quality of its neoprene.

This natural rubber comes from rubber trees. It completely replaces petrochemical neoprene. The Furnace Natural features a Yulex® core and is advertised as 100% neoprene-free. This is a material substitution, not an impact-free wetsuit, and we want to be clear about that.
What does Zipless mean?
Zipless means no zipper. You enter the wetsuit through a flexible opening at the chest. This design reduces water entry and gives you a completely free back. The drawback is that it's a bit more acrobatic to put on. It's a system you'll either love or hate, so try it before you buy it.
What is Graphene Recycler lining?
Graphene Recycler is a graphene-infused lining. It's designed to better distribute and reflect your body heat. You'll find it on the Furnace Natural and the Furnace 3 mm gloves. This is a manufacturer's claim, similar to Prolimit's Thermal Rebound or O'Neill's TechnoButter.
What thickness should I choose for La Baule Bay?
A 4/3 wetsuit works for most surfers from April to November. You'll need a 5/4 in the middle of winter, along with boots and gloves. A 2.2 top is sufficient for the height of summer.
Is the Synergy 5/4 good value for money?
At €259.95 for a 5/4 chest zip Superflex neoprene suit with Furnace lining, yes, it's one of the lowest prices in the shop for a winter wetsuit. It's not the absolute high-end on the market, and at this price, no one claims it is.
What is Superlight Foam?
Superlight Foam is made from recycled tires. It's used on the 2.2 Revo Interchange with a Superflex Recycler jersey made from 100% recycled fibers. This is the most material-consistent product in the range, and it's also the most affordable.
Three-finger or five-finger gloves?
Three fingers offer more warmth, while five fingers provide better precision. For surfing, where you don't hold anything, the Furnace 5 mm three-finger gloves work great. If you're gripping a bar for kite or wing, opt for the Furnace 3 mm five-finger gloves.
Split toe or classic bootie?
The split toe design, with a separated big toe, offers better grip on your board and enhanced feel. Classic booties are a bit warmer and easier to put on. For surfing, we recommend the split toe.
How do I choose my wetsuit size?
Your wetsuit should feel quite snug when dry; it will loosen up in the water. Use the brand's guide to cross-reference your height and weight. Then, check the torso length, as this is the parameter that causes the most discomfort if you get it wrong. If you're between sizes, give us a call.
How do I care for a Yulex® wetsuit?
Rinse your Yulex® wetsuit with fresh, cold water after every session. Dry it in the shade on a wide hanger, inside out first. Never machine wash or tumble dry. And most importantly, avoid prolonged direct sunlight; natural rubber tolerates UV even less than classic neoprene.
Can I try items on in the shop?
Yes, you can try them on at 2c Avenue du Gulf Stream in Pornichet, Tuesday through Saturday. For a wetsuit without a zip like the Furnace Natural, trying it on is not about comfort; it is the only way to know if the entry system works for you.
