Duotone Evo SLS 2027: Antoine's review and test
Published November 4, 2026
The Evo is by far our top-selling Duotone kite. Our in-store kitesurf advisor, Antoine, took the Duotone Evo SLS 2027 for three weeks straight to Mauritius and Rodrigues. He put it through its paces in strapless freestyle, wave riding, and kitefoiling in the lagoons. Here's his full report.
Huge thanks to Antoine for this detailed feedback.
The Duotone Evo SLS 2027 is Duotone's versatile kitesurf kite, built with SLS construction. It's available in nine sizes, from 5 to 13 m², and is priced from €1,799 to €2,439 in our catalog as of November 4, 2026. Antoine rode it for three weeks in Mauritius and Rodrigues, focusing on strapless freestyle, wave riding, and kitefoiling.
- Tester: Antoine, GlissEvolution kitesurf advisor and strapless freestyle rider
- Kite: Duotone Evo SLS 2027, various sizes
- Rental: Mauritius and Rodrigues islands, Indian Ocean
- Duration: three consecutive weeks
- Disciplines: strapless freestyle, wave, kitefoil in the lagoon
- Conditions: variable wind, including strong wind
Key Features
- Antoine noticed the kite feels significantly stiffer. He attributes this to the Leading Edge being inflated to a higher pressure, the thinner and stiffer struts that replace the Flex Strut, and a tighter Trailing Edge.
- In strong wind, it performs better. He found it more stable and faster.
- Steering is responsive and precise. You always know where the kite is without needing to look up.
- His verdict: this is an all-around kite that excels in the three disciplines he rode.
The Test: Three Weeks in Mauritius and Rodrigues
Antoine is a strapless freestyle rider, and Pont Mahé is his usual playground. He rode the Evo SLS 2027 for three consecutive weeks across two Indian Ocean islands. He started with strapless freestyle, then moved to wave riding for surfing, and finished with kitefoiling in the lagoons.
This was the perfect test for a kite marketed as versatile. He rode multiple sizes in varied wind conditions, and the duration far exceeded a typical test session.
Antoine's Take on the Construction Changes
The first thing he noted was the increased stiffness. He believes this comes from three combined modifications.
- The Leading Edge is inflated to a higher pressure. Our product sheet specifies 9 PSI for sizes up to 10 m² and 8 PSI for 11 m² and larger.
- The Flex Strut is gone. The remaining struts are now thinner and stiffer.
- The Trailing Edge is tighter, and Antoine feels this contributes significantly to the kite's performance.
Duotone also announced a new canopy profile for more progressive bar pressure and a redesigned canopy connection at the wingtip. Antoine did not comment on these specific changes.
On the Water: Antoine's Ride Feel
In Strong Wind
This is where Antoine felt the biggest difference. The kite holds better as the wind picks up, remaining stable and faster. He sees this as a direct result of the increased stiffness.
Steering
He describes the steering as enjoyable, with excellent responsiveness and precision. A recurring detail in his feedback is that you always know where the kite is. There's no need to look up to locate it, which is crucial in strapless riding when your focus is on the board and the wave.
“Its lightness and stiffness are a real asset: you always know where the kite is, no need to look at it, it’s super intuitive and easy to steer.”Antoine, upon his return from Mauritius and Rodrigues
Versatility
Antoine found no discipline where the kite stalled. He sums it up as a superb all-around kite that performs well in all conditions. His conclusion is simple: a very good kite.

Who is the Evo SLS 2027 for?
This is for the rider who wants just one kite in their van. Antoine's test confirms it: he rode this kite for three weeks straight, doing everything with it, and had zero complaints. If you enjoy a bit of every discipline and don't want to clutter your quiver with multiple kites, this is our top recommendation.
If your focus is 100% big air, you should also check out the Duotone Rebel SLS 2027, which Jérôme Fourcade tested in La Baule.
Consider this
- Antoine is a key member of our shop team. This review comes from a rider who truly knows the Duotone range, not from an independent test lab.
- This is real-world feedback, not lab measurements. Three weeks in the Indian Ocean is a solid test; for La Baule's winter wind, swing by the shop, and we can chat about it.
