The Leash: Your Primary Safety Device
The leash is your most important safety accessory. A wing leash, worn on your wrist, keeps the wing close if you fall; we recommend a coiled model to prevent it from dragging in the water. A board leash, worn on your waist rather than your ankle, keeps the board near you without interfering with your feet or pumping. Look for a swivel to limit tangles during transitions.
Harnesses and Harness Lines
While not mandatory, a harness significantly relieves arm strain on long tacks and improves upwind performance. Wing harnesses are lighter and more discreet than kitesurf harnesses, featuring a low hook. They are designed for use with a harness line, which connects the wing to the hook and can be adjusted to suit your handles or boom.
Footstraps and Pads
Footstraps provide a secure hold for committed freeride, freestyle, and strong conditions. For beginners, it's best to ride without straps to learn proper foot placement, then gradually add them as you progress to maneuvers.
Handles or boom?
Handles offer lightness and handling, making them the standard choice, perfect for freeride, freestyle, and waves. A boom, or wishbone, provides stiffness and comfort during long sessions, making it a favorite for downwind and freefly. Some wings are even compatible with both options.
Screw Set and Care
To properly attach and maintain your foil, you'll need T-nuts and stainless steel screws, which should be checked regularly. Mast shims are also useful for adjusting the trim. An anti-corrosion grease is essential, as saltwater can attack even stainless steel, and it also makes disassembly easier.
Bags and Transport
A bag or boardbag protects your board and foil during transport and storage, which is a real plus for preserving your gear over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the essential wingfoil accessories?
The wing leash (wrist) and board leash (waist) are for safety. Footstraps, harness, and harness line come next, depending on your skill level and riding style.
Which leash should you choose when you're starting out?
A coiled wing leash, which doesn't drag in the water, and a waist board leash, which is more practical than an ankle leash.
Is a harness essential for wingfoiling?
No. It relieves arm fatigue on long tacks and improves upwind tracking; for short sessions or freefly, you can do without it. It becomes invaluable for downwind and long sessions.
Handles or boom?
Handles, light and maneuverable, suit the vast majority of riders. The boom provides stiffness and comfort on long sessions, and is preferred for downwind.
Why grease the foil screw set?
Saltwater quickly corrodes screws, even stainless steel. Anti-corrosion grease protects and makes disassembly easier: apply with each assembly.
Do you need footstraps to start?
No, it's better to start without them to learn foot placement, then add them for advanced maneuvers.
