KEY INFORMATION

Pyzel Score Lord, a versatile Daily Driver surfboard from Jon Pyzel

What we like

  • Allround Daily Driver: Excels in 2 to 10-foot waves, making it perfect for the majority of European sessions.
  • Maximized volume without compromise: Three years of iterations have added volume while keeping the board exceptionally responsive.
  • Balanced outline: The wide point is 2 inches forward of center, with a fuller nose for easier paddling and take-offs.
  • Tuned rocker: A low entry rocker provides speed, while a pronounced, continuous tail curve allows for tight turns.
  • Vee to double concave bottom: Generates lift and responsiveness, ensuring smooth rail-to-rail transitions and efficient pumping.
  • Rounded pin tail: Offers natural rail engagement and a lively ride, even at slower speeds.
  • Forward volume under the chest: Maximizes paddling power, with a refined nose for clean entry into the wave.
  • 5-fin setup: Configure as a thruster or quad to match the conditions and your personal preferences.
  • Standard PU construction: Electralite is available as a custom order for those seeking a lighter board.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Design Philosophy and Purpose

The result of a three-year development program, the Score Lord is a Daily Driver refined through multiple iterations and tested by a small circle of surfers in varied conditions. The shaper's goal from the start was clear: increase volume without sacrificing responsiveness, creating a board that maximizes your wave count while supporting progression and delivering the high-end performance you expect. After consistent positive feedback and growing curiosity in the line-up, the model was added to the main range. Versatile in a wide range of conditions, from 2 to 10-foot waves, it combines paddle power, stability, and smooth glide, helping you catch more waves and push your limits session after session.

Outline and Rocker: A Balance of Paddle Power and Performance

Its clean outline has the wide point shifted 2 inches forward of center. A fuller nose makes paddling and getting into waves easier. The back half stays refined without being too pulled-in, finishing with a rounded pin tail that delivers a fluid yet responsive feel. The rocker is carefully calibrated for balance: a low entry generates speed and easy paddling, while a continuous, more pronounced tail rocker supports tight turns and controlled cutbacks. This combination allows the board to plane efficiently through flat sections, while fitting naturally into steeper, more critical parts of the wave. The extended tail rocker maintains speed and makes rail engagement easy at any pace.

Bottom Contour and Foam Distribution: Lift, Feel, and Response

The Score Lord's bottom contour starts with a subtle vee from nose to tail, transitioning into a double concave through the back two-thirds. This design generates lift and responsiveness, letting the board ride higher on the water and enabling quick rail-to-rail transitions. The ride feels lively, with smooth pumping and easy direction changes. The foam is also distributed strategically: more volume under the chest maximizes paddling power, a refined nose ensures a clean entry, and tapered rails and tail maintain sensitivity and responsiveness where it matters most.

Fins, Construction, and Sizing

The Score Lord is available with a thruster (3 fins) or 5-fin setup, with your choice of FCS II or Futures fin boxes. The 5-fin option lets you ride it as a thruster or a quad to suit the conditions and your style. The standard construction is PU, but a lighter Electralite version is available via custom order. This shape is ideal for a broad spectrum of riders, from intermediate to competitive surfers. Sizing depends on your skill and fitness: advanced surfers can ride it at or just below their height, or size up for a more relaxed ride. Intermediates will benefit from a board a bit longer than their height, adding up to 15 cm for more stability and easier paddling.

FAQ

Which Score Lord Size is Right for You?

The Score Lord is available in 18 sizes, from 5'6 (26.6L) to 8'6 (71.3L). An advanced surfer will usually ride this board at or slightly below their own height. An intermediate surfer, or anyone looking to improve their paddling, should consider adding up to 6 inches (15 cm) for more stability and a higher wave count. If you're still not sure, just contact us. We'll help you match the size to your level, weight, and local conditions.

FCS II or Futures: Which Fin System to Choose?

Both fin systems offer the same great performance. The choice really comes down to your existing fin quiver. FCS II features a quick click-in system and has the widest range of compatible fins available. Futures is a more traditional single-screw system, which many riders feel gives them a more connected-to-the-board feel. There's no wrong choice, just pick the system that matches the fins you already own.

Thruster or Five Fin (5 Plugs)?

The Score Lord comes with a 3-fin (thruster) setup as standard. The 5-plug version adds two extra fin boxes, giving you the option to ride it as a quad for more speed in weaker waves or hollow sections. If you want the freedom to switch between a thruster and quad setup depending on the day's conditions, choose the Five Fin option.

What Conditions is the Score Lord Designed For?

This is a Daily Driver, designed for waves from 0.6 to 3 meters (2 to 10 ft). Its shape combines paddle power, glide, and performance, making it an ideal choice for typical European conditions, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. It's built to help you maximize your wave count on any given day without sacrificing performance.
