The Ozone R1 V5 Kite Only is Ozone's pure race foil kite, IKA Formula Kite approved for the 2028 Olympic cycle. After four years of development and over fifty prototypes, it has shed all traces of freeride to become a hydrofoil racing machine. The 10, 11, 14, 15, 19, and 21 m² sizes (65 cells) now feature true two-line technology, with only A and B levels. This means less bridle and less drag. The kite flies further into the wind window. The 8 and 9 m² (51 cells) retain four lines for strong and gusty conditions. This kite is sold only, without a bar, in six colors.

What we like

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
A racing machine, nothing less
The Ozone R1 V5 delivers the highest speeds at aggressive angles. It also provides the most efficient transitions when fractions of a second count. Every design element works to maintain maximum momentum in all situations. Axel Mazella from the Ozone team sums it up: each size was designed for controlled performance and specific needs.
Two lines from 10 to 21 m²
The 10, 11, 14, 15, 19 and 21 m² sizes, all with 65 cells, use true two lines technology with only A and B lines levels. Less bridle means less drag. The kite flies further into the window for more speed and better angles. The thinnest and strongest Technora bridles further reduce drag. All R1 V5 kites come with the MK2 bridle set.
Four lines on 8 and 9 m²
The smaller sizes retain four line levels (A, B, C, and brake). They feature a different sail plan, lower aspect ratio, and 51 cells, inherited from previous R1 models. When conditions become extreme, four lines and an active sheeting feel provide maximum stability and control.
Profile and structure
New profiles were developed for the two lines technology. They were analyzed in numerical simulation and tested in competition. The goal is the least lift possible at low angle of attack, especially when the kite rises to the zenith in a transfer. Fiberglass battens along the chord (10 to 21 m²) and Leading Edge battens keep the profile intact in turbulent air.
Rigifoil, mini ribs, canopy
Rigifoil battens are sewn between the Leading Edge battens. This prevents the canopy from creasing between the ribs at high speeds. Mini ribs at the Trailing Edge of each cell limit ballooning. The canopy uses 20D (35 g) on top and 10D (27 g) on the bottom, just like Ozone's Ultra Light kites. Triple transverse shaping smooths the Leading Edge from 10 to 21 m². A new valve allows faster inflation. It also provides better watertightness.
Sizes and Quiver
IKA rules allow four kites per event: a maximum of 21 m² for men, 19 m² for women, then one size in each 15/14, 11/10, and 9/8 group. The eight available sizes let lighter riders choose slightly less power. Ozone recommends accordion-folding the kite and never storing it with deformed Leading Edge battens.

FAQ - OZONE R1 V5 KITE ONLY
This kite is for Formula Kite racers and expert kitefoilers who demand pure racing performance. It's not a freeride kite, nor is it for learning kitefoiling. Ozone deliberately removed all freeride components from the design.
The true two lines technology from 10 to 21 m², the fiberglass chord battens, the Rigifoil, the mini ribs, the triple Leading Edge shaping, the new valve and the MK2 bridle set supplied as standard.
According to IKA rules and weight, men generally choose 21, 15, 11, and 9 m². Women and lighter riders typically use 19, 14, 10, and 8 m². If you're looking for a kite for non-competition use, your choice depends on your local wind conditions and body size. Give us a call for personalized advice.
Experience incredible upwind and downwind angles and speed. The low lift at the zenith makes for fluid transitions, and a light bar saves your energy. Plus, the construction keeps the profile intact at high speeds.
Accordion-fold it after each session, as Ozone recommends. Dry it in the shade before storing it, and never store it with deformed Leading Edge battens. Periodically check the Technora bridles and valves.
Pair it with an Ozone bar suitable for race foil and an approved race foil. The kite is sold separately, with its MK2 bridles and compression bag. Our colors include Slate Blue, Light Blue, Lime, Black, Plum, and Yellow. Ozone also offers custom colors by special order.
