Ozone Pocket Rocket V2: Test and Review (parawing)
The parawing has become the favorite tool for foil and downwind enthusiasts, and the Ozone Pocket Rocket V2 aims for the top: performance, ease, and quick packing in one package. Hydro Gav tested it to see if Ozone corrected the flaws of the V1 and where the compromises lie. We summarize his verdict for you, without distorting his words.

The Ozone Pocket Rocket V2 is a high-performance all-round single-skin parawing for foil and downwind, available in 7 sizes from 1.9 to 5.7 m², from €919 to €1.129 incl. tax.
Tested by Hydro Gav (independent test): spliced lines rated the best on the market, express pack-down, wide wind range, and incredibly efficient upwind. Surprisingly forgiving despite its level, it has become his go-to parawing. Reservations: a premium price, a speed/upwind angle ratio (VMG) exploited at about 80% according to him, and a slight bar vibration when going full throttle.
Who is the Pocket Rocket V2 for?
According to Hydro Gav's test, the Pocket Rocket V2 is for any rider who wants performance without the effort: a versatile everyday wing, with quick and clean pack-down, that goes upwind fast to multiply downwind runs. It targets a wide audience, from beginner to advanced: it is forgiving but rewards engaged piloting, and remains usable in a very wide range of conditions.
It is less suitable for tight budgets (more affordable options exist, but not at the same level according to the tester), for those primarily seeking maximum simplicity or a wing dedicated to pure wave and downwind (the PowerPack remains a notch easier), or for pure speed hunters looking for the absolute best angle/speed ratio. Our detailed review of the Pocket Rocket V2
The field feedback comes from Hydro Gav, who conducted an independent test, with no affiliation to Ozone. What he's looking for: performance without effort, a kite fast enough to be thrilling, efficient enough to enjoy time on the water, but simple enough not to fuss with folding, tacking, or redeploying.
Independent Test: Hydro Gav
The bag and carrying
Hydro Gav places great importance on the bag, as it sets the tone for the product. The concept is based on the PowerPack, which he loves, with one key change: the velcro he criticized has been replaced by a clip. This changes everything on the water, where previously you had to struggle to close everything after a kite change; now you stop, change, clip, and go. You also get a real quiver holder and a kind of mini Mission Pack included, which he considers the best solution currently provided.
The Bow Bar and the yoke
The bar was one of his criticisms of the V1. Ozone has adopted the very efficient PowerPack bar, without overcomplicating it: the length is perfect, even in large sizes (the 5 m² remains easy to store while maintaining full control), and the lines are guided away from the bar to prevent tangles. The yoke system, increasingly common, cleans up the rig and smooths the ride, with more progressive power delivery and a bit more range.
The lines and the express pack-down
Another issue with V1: lines that were too long and made of a material that tangled easily. All of that has disappeared. They have been shortened to the correct length, and most importantly, they are entirely spliced, without knots or junctions: nothing snags when you slide your hands, as close to zero friction as possible. For Hydro Gav, these are by far the best lines on the market to date. As with the PowerPack, a split on the A-line allows the kite to be flagged out while still under power: the kite instantly disappears, whether on the beach or mid-run. Overall, the lines, bar, and canopy offer the best folding and storage he has ever experienced on a parawing.
A surprisingly wide wind range
This is what surprised him the most, especially the low end. For a kite at this performance level, you can fly it very far back in the window without it stalling: you load it, and it gives that little extra boost of power to get going. At the top of the range, it holds its shape, gives no dubious sensations, and has never collapsed in the conditions encountered. He honestly states that he hasn't yet taken it out in very strong winds but is confident given the V1 and the PowerPack.
Surprisingly easy to use
Given its performance level, he expected a demanding kite; it's the opposite. The Rocket V2 is very forgiving: tacks, jibes, down loops, control, wind range, everything is manageable, to the point where one could learn on it. And yet, riders who push the discipline will not be disappointed. The PowerPack remains, in his opinion, a bit easier and better suited for waves or dedicated downwind, but without reaching this level of performance.
Performance is evident when going upwind
It's when going upwind that the difference is felt the most. It goes upwind really well, but most importantly, it gets you there faster: with more efficiency and a slightly higher aspect ratio, it gains upwind more quickly. And that's the whole point: the faster you reach your upwind point, the more you enjoy the fun part, the downwind run.
Pocket Rocket V2 vs. PowerPack
| Compared to… | What the test says |
|---|---|
| Ozone PowerPack | The PowerPack remains a bit easier, with a better low end and a profile better suited for waves and pure downwind; the Pocket Rocket V2 is a step above in performance, especially upwind. |
| More affordable options | There are cheaper parawings, but not with the same level of finish, lines, and wind range, according to the tester. |
In summary: our opinion on the Pocket Rocket V2
For Hydro Gav, the Ozone Pocket Rocket V2 is a highly accomplished product with virtually no flaws. It's easy to use, truly high-performing, packs down neatly, goes upwind quickly, and works across a wide range of conditions, making it a kite you can take out almost every day. There might be faster options, and undoubtedly more accessible ones for beginners, but as a complete package, it hits the sweet spot. It's his personal choice today: at the time of filming, he believes no one has done better.
