Restriction Period
As every summer, kitesurfing is prohibited in La Baule Bay from the moment the first yellow buoy is laid, marking off swimming areas and sailing and motor channels, until the last buoy is removed (generally mid-May to mid-September). A launch zone has been negotiated thanks to the involvement of local associations, Newkite and Ride the Bay, and professionals like GlissEvolution.
Channel Configuration
The kite channel is positioned upwind of the new Mazy jetty, on the La Baule side. It is 70 meters wide along the beach. The take-off zone is located upwind of the channel. The buoy line is angled towards the Yagga channel, with an exit width reaching 240 meters.
Opening Hours and Conditions
The channel is open from 12 PM to 7 PM, under the supervision of the station managers. Outside these hours, navigation is tolerated but unsupervised, and respect for swimmers is imperative. Minimum wind required: 6 knots (only kite-foils can navigate at this intensity). Tide condition: the second buoy of the channel must be clear (mid-outgoing tide). Possible opening at high tide if the beach is not crowded.
Restrictions and Rules
Wingfoiling is prohibited in this channel (launch authorized only via boat channels). The channel is not a navigation zone: it is solely for launching. Navigation must take place beyond 300 meters, and you must stay at least 100 meters from the shore. Before 12 PM and after 7 PM, in the absence of supervision, the rider is fully responsible. In case of an incident, unsupervised navigation may lead to prosecution.
Mandatory Equipment Marking
Since June 2019, it is mandatory to mark your kite and kitesurf board with your name and a phone number or email address. This marking is required in July and August, but recommended all year round. It facilitates searches in case of loss or incident.
