Wings: How to Choose Your Wingfoil Wing

Updated July 2026

A wing is an inflatable wing you hold in your hands to harness the wind. Unlike kitesurfing, there are no lines or bar, giving you the freedom to release the wing at any time, which makes learning incredibly accessible. Here at GlissEvolution, our shop has been in Pornichet since 2005, and our team of passionate riders is ready to help you choose the perfect wing for your weight, local wind conditions, and riding style. This section is part of our wing foil universe; don't forget to also check out boards, foils, and pocket wings and parawings. To kickstart your journey, be sure to consult our beginner's guide to wingfoiling.

Classic Wing or Parawing?

The classic wing features an inflatable Leading Edge and strut, held by handles or a wishbone. This is the allround choice, easy to handle, and ideal for beginners and progression. The parawing, on the other hand, is a soft, frameless, ultra-compact wing that you hold at the end of a rope connected to a harness. It's a popular option for downwind runs and long glides, though it does require a bit more technique. You can find it in our pocket wings and parawings section.

What Wing Size for Different Wind Conditions?

The wing surface area is chosen based on the wind and your weight. Here are some indicative guidelines for an allround wing.

Wing SizeWindUsage
3 to 4 m²25 knots and moreStrong wind, performance
4.5 to 5.5 m²15 to 22 knotsAllround, standard conditions
6 to 7 m²10 to 15 knotsLight wind

Most riders typically own two wings, for example, a 4 m² and a 6 m², to cover a wide wind range.

What's the Budget for a Wing?

As a guide for 2026, excluding sale items, expect to pay around 700 to 1.€100 depending on the range and construction. You can also find great deals on checked second-hand wings to get equipped for less.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wing size should you choose based on wind conditions?

For strong wind, opt for 3 to 4 m²; for standard conditions, 4.5 to 5.5 m²; and for light wind, 6 to 7 m², always taking your weight into account. Refer to our size guide for detailed recommendations.

How many kites do you need?

Two wings are usually enough to cover most conditions, for example, a 4 m² and a 6 m².

Classic wing or parawing for beginners?

The classic wing is the best choice for beginners, as it's more forgiving and easier to handle. The parawing is better suited for riders who prioritize compactness for downwind.
