Damien's Review
The F-One Plume marks a new era in K-Wing riding. Lightweight, fluid, and intuitive, it embodies the spirit of kiteboarding while catering to wingfoil riders seeking new sensations. Its C-shape design promotes stability and handling, while its minimalist construction gives it a lightweight feel and excellent responsiveness. With no prior kiteboarding experience but a good wingfoil level, I enthusiastically took to it.
Finding the Right Setup
My first two sessions weren't conclusive: average wind conditions and an ill-suited board. I quickly realized that a good setup is essential: a midlength board offering good glide, a volume 20 to 30 liters greater than your weight, and a high-lift foil between 1100 and 1500 cm². The most important factor remains the wind: you need at least 20 knots for an easy take-off, and with a bit of experience, you can fly from 16 or 17 knots.
The Breakthrough: The Magic of the Third Session
During my third session with a solid 20 knots, the Plume revealed its full potential. The wing inflates perfectly and remains stable overhead. Take-off is effortless: no need to pump with your arms, just let the natural pull do the work. By orienting the board about 110° to the wind, you immediately feel the speed and lift, then the flight becomes fluid, balanced, and incredibly enjoyable.
The lightness of the Plume changes everything: in flight, the feeling of freedom is total. You can hold the bar with one or two hands, without tension or imbalance. The wrist leash provides reassuring safety and allows you to fully enjoy the water.
Maneuvers: Jibe, Tack, and Freefly
The first jibe attempts aren't easy: the wing tends to drop when you bear away too much. By adjusting the timing, initiating the jibe a second before the rotation, everything becomes fluid. The heel-side jibe comes quickly, while the toe-side jibe still requires a few more sessions.
Once the basics are mastered, it's time for freefly, the heart of the Plume concept. Grabbing the freefly handle is simple, and as soon as the wing settles on your back, you forget it's there: you experience a pure, light, and effortless glide. To relaunch, simply pull lightly on the leash to bring the bar closer, then re-grab it, and the Plume instantly regains its stability.
