DUOTONE REBEL SLS 2025
Introduction
Here's my review of the 2025 Rebel SLS kite. I tested the 7-meter size, which is ideal for a 65-70 kg rider in winter conditions on January 24, 2025, for one hour at the La Baule spot, S-SW orientation.
The water was relatively calm for the bay, with a well-formed offshore bar and swell ranging from 80 centimeters to 2 meters, with conditions between 27 and 34 knots.
Discovering the kite on the sand
Upon opening the orange bag, you're greeted with an equally bright color and a harmonious contrast of navy blue. From the first glance, you notice a new cutting technique and new panel seams. You even see that the Duotone logos are sewn with small patterns inside, giving a beautiful finish up close. (However, we'll see what repairers think of it).
Comparison with the previous version of the kite
The reinforcements and Leading Edge construction are identical to the 2023 model. The "FLEX" mention is no longer present on the small outer strut before the wingtip, but it still contributes to reactivity, take-off power, and airtime. It was already present on previous versions, but it still stands out from the others.
At each end of the Leading Edge, there's a pointed shape, already present in the previous version, which optimizes aerodynamics during rotations. The fabric is more prominent on the wingtips, covering almost half a panel, and this fabric increases stiffness in these areas, which are subject to deformation and pull from the back lines. One area, in particular, is even better protected by this more resistant fabric than SPI, as it is exposed to friction during take-offs and landings.
What's New in the Kite
The main change is the presence of six carbon rod reinforcements on each panel between the struts, identical to those found on wings. They are very well integrated, and the supports are neatly finished, as they do not disrupt the kite's folding at all.
The pulleys are still present on the front lines, but the large elastic on the back lines with the ring is no longer there.
On-Water Sensations
The pull in the harness is constant, without jerks.
The sensations are always there, even in gusts. A kite 100% compatible for freeride use with good upwind performance, simple, undemanding, and super fluid steering!
This Rebel SLS 2025 also allows you to push your limits in Big Air and even achieve repeatability in jump height. The combination of flexibility, forgiveness, and the kite's lift for jumps is noticeable and allows for progressive and linear ascents. Passing the kite into the opposite window won't cause you to make a fatal exit from the track.
While being forgiving, this kite allows us time to correct bar errors and quickly regain a downwind trajectory.
Even after impressive aerial traverses and during jump landings, you feel safety and appreciate the controlled descent thanks to enormous lift and excellent power recovery with each dowloop.
Points to Consider
The weak point of this kite is that it could turn a little faster for its size. Furthermore, this kite remains reserved for intermediate to advanced riders, despite all the technical improvements in this vintage.
It's not demanding, but it has a very powerful engine. For example, falls with your back to the direction of travel can carry you a long distance. Also, be careful when using smaller sizes in more difficult conditions, as this could lead to a challenging time when passing through squalls.
Conclusion
My feedback is based on my personal feelings, so each rider can form their own experience. The available sizes from 6 to 14m² allow you to choose according to your use.
In my opinion, the larger sizes can be very interesting for lightwind and for heavier riders thanks to a double construction in Penta + Trinity TX, which are very lightweight materials.
The good thing is that despite all the evolutions in the kite's geometry, the price has not increased. In the same range, you can find the Rebel SLS Concept Blue at the same price, which is built with eco-responsible materials.
